Alderstead Council is the local education authority for Alderstead. It supports local delivery of the State education system while the Department for Education retains national responsibility for education policy, curriculum, qualifications, teaching standards and the national safeguarding framework.
Local education-authority support
The council supports local school and college delivery, Study School and Learning Hub provision, learner access, local education communication, authorised education records, accessibility, safeguarding escalation and the local implementation of Department for Education standards. It also helps connect education requirements with the local estate and infrastructure systems responsible for education places.
Alderstead education institutions
The local education institutions are Alderstead School, Alderstead College, Alderstead Study School and Alderstead Learning Hub. Each has a different educational role. The council supports the local system around them rather than treating the institutions as interchangeable.
National and local responsibilities
Alderstead Council does not set a separate national curriculum, create national qualifications or replace the Department for Education. Education-place infrastructure is delivered through the responsible infrastructure route, including the National Infrastructure Service where that function has been allocated to it.
