Alderstead Council employs people to support local democracy and deliver council services. Vacancies are advertised when the council has an approved post open for applications.
Working for the council
Roles can cover democratic and governance services, communities, libraries and archives, heritage and recreation, education support, finance, legal and records work, resilience, customer services and other professional or operational functions needed by the authority.
Council employment is public service. Staff are expected to work within the council's governance arrangements, handle public information and records appropriately, support elected members without taking on a political mandate, and deliver services fairly and consistently.
Applying for a vacancy
Each vacancy notice sets out the duties of the role, the essential requirements, the appointment process and how to apply. Applications are assessed against the requirements of the post rather than against informal expressions of interest sent to unrelated services.
Fair recruitment and reasonable adjustments
The council uses fair and open recruitment where applicable and keeps an appropriate appointment record. Reasonable adjustments are available for applicants who need them. Posts involving safeguarding responsibilities, sensitive records or another controlled function may also require the checks appropriate to that work.
