Cookies are small files that a website can store on your device. They can be used to keep a service secure, remember a short-lived preference or maintain an authenticated session.
Cookies on the public website
The public Alderstead Council website does not use advertising cookies. Ordinary public pages are designed to work without requiring a user account.
Editor and administrator sessions
Drupal may use necessary session cookies when an authorised editor or administrator signs in. These cookies are used to maintain the secure authenticated session and are not used for advertising.
Managing cookies
You can use your browser settings to view, block or delete cookies. Blocking cookies needed for an authenticated service may prevent that service from working correctly. Public information pages should remain available without signing in.
Changes to cookie use
If the council introduces a feature that uses additional cookies, the public information should be updated before or alongside that change. Optional cookies should be distinguished from cookies that are genuinely necessary for security or authenticated administration. The council should not describe analytics, advertising or third-party tracking as necessary merely because a supplier has enabled it by default.
