Volunteering is one way to take part in Alderstead's community and civic life. Opportunities can be offered by the council or by independent community organisations.
Choosing an opportunity
Look at what the role involves, who is responsible for the activity, the expected time commitment and any training or safeguarding requirements. A volunteer role should be clear about whether it is a council opportunity or an opportunity with another organisation.

Community Connectors can help identify local groups and activities if you are not sure where to start.
Safeguarding and suitability
Some opportunities involve children, young people, vulnerable people, sensitive information or other responsibilities that require additional checks or supervision. The organisation offering the opportunity is responsible for explaining those requirements. A council-supported opportunity should make clear whether the volunteer is acting for Alderstead Council or for an independent organisation.
Choosing a volunteer role
Look at what the role involves, who is running the activity, the time commitment and any training or safeguarding requirements before agreeing to take part. A council volunteer opportunity should identify that the council is the responsible organisation; an opportunity with an independent group remains the responsibility of that group.
Some roles involve children, vulnerable people, sensitive information or controlled access and may therefore require additional checks or supervision. The organisation offering the role explains those requirements before the volunteer starts.
