Alderstead Council supports volunteering and a strong local civil society by helping residents find ways to contribute and by making it easier for community organisations to connect with relevant council services.

Volunteering

Volunteer opportunities may be offered by the council or by independent charities, clubs, faith groups, societies, resident groups and other community organisations. The organisation offering the opportunity is responsible for explaining what the role involves, the time commitment and any training, supervision or safeguarding requirements.

Community organisations

The council can engage, consult and work in partnership with independent organisations where that supports a local council function. A funding agreement, commission or partnership may create specific responsibilities, but ordinary engagement does not make an independent organisation part of Alderstead Council.

Building local capacity

Support can include improving local information, connecting organisations with council services and identifying barriers to participation. The aim is to strengthen community activity without compromising the independence of civil-society organisations.

Working with the council
