Councillors are the elected members of Alderstead Council. They represent residents through local wards, take part in Full Council and committees, scrutinise the executive and contribute to decisions about the council's local responsibilities.

What councillors do

A councillor has both a representative and a decision-making role. They can raise local concerns, contribute to policy and budget discussions, take part in scrutiny and serve on committees or other council bodies. Councillors must act within the council's constitution and standards arrangements when carrying out council business.

Councillors do not personally replace the services that handle routine applications, reports or operational casework. If you need a council service, using the relevant service page usually gets the matter to the right team more quickly.

Wards and member information

Councillors are elected for wards established through the local government boundary process. The council's member records publish the councillor, ward, council roles, contact details and any declarations required by the standards arrangements once those records are established.

Contacting the council about democracy
